'Usurper' has a new five star review on Amazon. Find it in the Reviews section of this site (and on my page at Amazon.co.uk, of course). It is by somebody who calls him or herself Fantasy Fiction Fan, and is particularly valuable because it is patently obvious that this person has actually read the book and genuinely enjoyed it. That is not always the case with reviews. So, thank you for the review, Fantasy Fiction Fan, whoever you may be, and I hope you enjoy the other books in the series just as much.
They now number six, of course: two trilogies 'A King's Head' and 'A Queen's Heart'. There is to be a seventh book, 'Larussi's Heartsong' which will bring the Avalind books to a close. At least for now. She is only twenty-five, however, so who knows what will happen in the future? After 'Larussi', though, I think my poor brain might need a bit of a rest from Avalind and the Kingdom and write about something else for a while.
Although I know what the central themes of 'Larussi's Heartsong' will be, and which major characters will reappear, I have not yet written a word of it. The reason is that I am homing in on completing my third 'Rutter' book: 'Relapse'. On my creating and editing layout, it currently tips the scales at 410 pages. That equates to about 350 in a printed book because the editing layout is double-spaced and uses the rather large Courier font for clarity (i.e.. it makes the mistakes easier to spot). When published, however, it will be converted to a much more elegant single-spaced Times New Roman, as are all my books.
I have the rest of 'Relapse' more or less mapped out in my head and estimate that I have 50 -80 pages still to write. At the current rate of progress, that should take about a week. That will not be the end of the matter, though. Once the first draft is finished, a month-long period of intense editing will ensue, which will see the entire work redrafted. Then it goes to Cuzzie for the stiffest test of all: the proofreading. That, in turn, may throw up more revisions which need to be included. All in all, I am looking at a publication date sometime in May.
Writer of Fantasy, thrillers, comedy - and anything else that takes my fancy.
