Following the publication of 'Stella and Rose', I have begun work on a fourth Rutter novel. This is provisionally entitled 'Rutter's Reasoning', but that may or may not change before it is finished. So far, I am 21,000 words in and up to page 92 in my editing draft (which gets fewer lines to the page that the published draft because it is double-spaced for technical reasons). That puts me at around 20% of the anticipated total, but there is a long way to go yet.
This book sees Rutter delve into the world of fine art, but, as ever, there is more to it than meets the eye. It builds on elements first revealed in the final short story of 'Stella and Rose' with Rutter and Alex settling down to their new life together in a new house and her immediate superior, and former lover, Detective Superintendent Malcolm Renwick, looking on from his office – perhaps a little jealously.
I look to complete the new book (my fourteenth) over the summer and am targeting a publication date in September or October.
