The first stage in making my books available to the widest possible audience is now taking effect. All six of my published books are becoming available in paperback editions as well as on Kindle. Most of them are ready now, the others will be in a matter of a few days. You can order them by clicking on the appropriate links in my 'Published Works' page. The links will direct you to the relevant pages in Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk
The next stage comes next month. This is quite a complicated process, so I am doing it carefully, which takes time, I am afraid. When complete, it will see my works available on every ebook reader on the market: Kindle, iPad, Kobo, Sony - you name it.
There is a new review of 'The Planning Officers', by SESWERNER (Wien) on my 'Reviews' page. If you need cheering up, this might be the book for you.
Last week's promotion went better than all expectations. Nearly 4,000 copies of 'Chained in Time' and 'Usurper' were downloaded, mostly in Britain, but there were almost 600 US downloads, a handful from Germany and even one from Spain. Since it closed on Monday, sales, particularly of 'Chained' have remained healthy.
That, however, is likely to be my last free offer, at least for the present, because I do not think it is a good thing for the industry overall. The problem is that too many independent writers are publishing badly-written, inaccurate and poorly-formatted books and giving them away free in the hope of picking up a few sales later. This impacts badly on those of us who take a pride in our work and write to professional standards because it tars us all with the same brush.
Accordingly, I intend to withdraw from the KDP Select Program when my membership expires on June 4th. This means that my books will not be eligible for future free offers. They will continue to be available, however, and new ones will be added as they are written. I intend to join Smashwords on the same day, which will see my work available on iBooks, Nook, Sony E-Reader and Kobo. I am also a member of CreateSpace, which produces traditional printed books. Therefore my work should also be available to those who prefer to turn pages before the summer is out.
My new book, 'The Ancient Realm' is now at the editing stage and should be ready for publication in July. The cover, reproduced opposite, was designed by my son, Paul, who does all my covers.
'The Ancient Realm' is the first part of 'A Queen's Heart', which is the sequel trilogy to 'A King's Head'. It takes up the story five years after the original and all the surviving characters from that tale reappear.
My new friend, Phillip Duke, who has been mentioned in this blog, is helping me to edit it. Phillip is an excellent author in his own right, and I recommend his work wholeheartedly, particularly his philosophical works, 'Evolution and God' and 'Karma'. He has also written two important, and harrowing books about drug addiction, entitled 'Heroin: Gods's Own Medicine' (1 and 2) and some entertaining Sherlock Holmes pastiches. His books are available on Kindle and Nook. Find his website here: http://philduke.weebly.com/
Writer of Fantasy, thrillers, comedy - and anything else that takes my fancy.
